Gordie's Movie Reviews

I just like to watch movies. Here's a blog that keeps track of how I felt after watching them so that you could also watch or avoid them when you want to sit back and enjoy a movie.

King Kong

I finally had a chance to watch the movie but after viewing it I am disappointed. Not because it was an awful movie, but because I'm thinking to myself that I should've watched this one in the theater. This movie was amazing. First of all, I liked the cinematography and the old movie filming style of the movie. It was sort of like watching an old movie but you know that you weren't. Before, I thought that this movie wasn't all that big of a deal since I've seen the older versions but this newer version of the classic film has some changes to it that made it sparkle and not redundant. There are better special effects, the relationship between King Kong and Naomi Watt's character was refreshing and different. There was one scene where she is doing vaudeville stunts and dancing for King Kong. I thought that scene was just hilarious and completely unexpected. Jack Black also played the role of the director superbly. I've always liked his movies and this might be his best actor part to date. The movie did start off slow but after the introduction of the dinosaurs, the movie picked up and it never slowed down until the ending. Everyone should watch this one. It's too bad that we've all missed it in the theaters but at least it should be watched on DVD which probably doesn't do it justice. 10/10

Shutter

Shutter

I heard that this Thai movie was supposed to be very scary so I purchased the DVD expecting to scream and be terrified. I don't mind being scared once in a while. Anyways, it started off kind of slow but it had some scenes that made me jump near the beginning. It didn't look too frightening to me at all though. It also seemed like it would be a rehashed storyline with the familiar female ghost ala "The Grudge" or "The Ring". But the scares pick up after the middle of the movie and it ends with one of the most horrifying and scream inducing final scenes from a horror movie that I have ever seen. There is a twist to surprise us as well. Without that ending, it would be just an average horror movie but because of the ending, I'm giving this a 9/10.
